The 10 selected startups will benefit from the expertise of over 200  Impact Builders and the opportunity to connect with established corporates seeking novel innovations that are already part of the X2.0 Ecosystem.

The 4th Open Call from X2.0 is now open and is dedicated to impact-driven deeptech startups in the areas of Smart Cities and Sustainability. The X2.0 programme, which has a total of funding of €1.5 million, is seeking 10 exceptional startups to join its 5-month Growth Program. Each beneficiary will have access to €30,000 in Innovation Vouchers and the chance to receive mentorship and scaling services from the X2.0 external service providers, known as Impact Builders.

A growing X2.0 ecosystem!

The program has reached the halfway point of its lifespan and has formed a rich, and highly innovative entrepreneurial ecosystem. It already includes 30 startups benefiting from the Growth Programme, selected in each of the previous Cohorts: Manufacturing & Circular Economy, Agritech, and Healthtech & Biotech; more than 170 Impact Builders, experts from almost 40 countries offering services in business development, commercialisation, deep-tech needs, finance, internationalization, promotion, and communication, and almost 20 corporates in the fields of transportation, innovation, telecommunications, financial services, healthcare, drinks, and energy and sustainability among others that are seeking novel innovations, strategic partnerships, and investment opportunities.

New innovative ideas to build smart cities for sustainable and resilient communities

By 2050, it is projected that two out of every three people will reside in cities or urban centres, as indicated by the United Nations. Therefore, this highlights the urgency of implementing more sustainable urban planning and public services. Considering this situation, this new Open Call is aimed at startups and SMEs whose objective is to leverage the latest technology or scientific discoveries to enhance the quality of life for residents and urban environments, all while promoting sustainable practices and ways of life.

The rapid urbanization and industrialization have led to an increase in environmental pressure, thereby putting the quality of life of citizens at risk or even diminishing it. To face this situation, various technological applications are already being developed that, by effectively and complementarily using them, can reduce emissions by 10 to 15 per cent. At this point, the support from the X2.0 Growth program is essential to accelerate the development of these solutions and bring them to the market within a short period of time.

X2.0 fourth cohort is focused on a wide range of sub-topics and areas which can be seen to overlap and interconnect like: urban mobility & clean transportation, urban planning and development, public safety and security, energy efficiency, circular economy, resource efficiency, water and air quality, waste management, climate change mitigation, environmental monitoring, resilience, and disaster preparedness.
