Not sure if you fit into AgriTech? X2.0 wants anything related to food in its second Open Call!
Innovation is needed everywhere and is it at the core of the deeptech space. But it can be argued that innovation is especially key when it comes to food: one of human’s few basic, yet essential needs.
That’s why X2.0 is after not just startups providing new and advanced technologies to improve agriculture production; this project is actively seeking startups addressing all stages of the food production line, from packaging food in a warehouse to the chef’s special.
When it comes to AgriTech specifically, startups providing tools to transition to smart farming, tracking solutions and biotechnology are all of particular interest.
What does FoodTech include?
FoodTech includes technologies that can enable climate change mitigation and adaption. New technologies addressing climate change can ultimately lead to cleaner and more sustainable food systems, thereby reducing food waste and increasing productivity and efficiency.
Given the fact that food systems are complex, advancements are required at every step of production and consumption to ensure that we are building more sustainable systems. Like the first Open Call, X2.0 encourages startups that can demonstrate their solution to enable a circular economy. This includes methods and innovations that can facilitate the reuse of food waste, for example.
We also need alternative protein sources. As the human global population size continues to rise, demands for animal protein are increasingly damaging the environment. It is essential to come up with solutions that provide alternative protein sources which are high in protein, sustainable and require less land to cultivate.
According to EIT Food, the key themes to address in AgriTech domain are:
- Protein Diversification
- Circular Food Systems
- Digital Traceability
- Sustainable Agriculture
- Targeted Nutrition
